10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge
This blog post is in response to Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 9 #10DBC, #freedomplan
Note from Natalie:
Location independence. You may have your own idea of what location independence means to you and how it figures in your ideal lifestyle. But you may not be sure yet. That is why today’s challenge will show you the entire range of location independent lifestyles and how you can choose what is best for you.
Day 9 Challenge:
Imagine you are on a long holiday in Portugal (or wherever your dream destination is). There are castles to explore, secret bars to discover, and sunny beaches to laze around on. In today’s post, I want you to write about how you will balance your adventure and work while you are away on this holiday.
If location independence is part of your vision on freedom too, that’s fantastic. Even if you don’t want to be fully location independent, wouldn’t you love the freedom of taking off on a vacation just because you can? Natalie Sisson
What location independence means to me
Location independence is about living, working, playing anywhere in the world on my terms. I can do what I want, when I want, how I want. I am not tied or restricted in any way. I am free to choose my own adventure and do the things that matter to me the most. I can do the things I absolutely love all day and everyday.
My main reason
This is my main reason for creating my freedom plan – LOCATION INDEPENDENCE.The idea of being able to work from anywhere in the world. To be able to travel and see different places, experience different foods, music and cultures. This is the life I want to live. The idea of knowing that I can work from anywhere I choose is so empowering, freeing and liberating. I live on my terms and no one else’s.
What Location Independence looks like for me…
I am on an 8-week “live-work-play” holiday in the Cayman Islands. I am enjoying all the island has to offer. One of the perks of the freedom lifestyle is I can have “bases in places”. I have a luxury condo on the water. Every day is a perfect day full of fun and adventure. This is what a location independent lifestyle allows me to do 24-7 365 days of the year. I can live, work and play anywhere in the world. I can live the freedom lifestyle on my terms. How I spend my days is totally up to me. The choice is mine!
The Perfect Day in the Cayman Islands
I wake up with the sun…
I linger in bed just thinking about all the things I am grateful for in my life. I hydrate my body with a liter of fresh coconut water.
Next I start my morning mindset practice…
I do 15 minute of each: silent meditation, affirmations, visualizations, exercise, reading and writing. For a total of 90 minutes. Once I have done my morning mindset practice I shower and have my favorite breakfast.
Check Email and Social Media…
This is followed by 30 minutes for email and 30 minutes for social media.
Then I take a leisurely walk to the local raw vegan cafe for a large fresh pressed green juice. This gives me tons of energy for the day ahead. On the way back to the condo I walk along the waters edge just enjoying the sun, the water and the people. I stop and chat with a local briefly.
Connect with my Freedom Fighters (outsourcers) and my Freedom Team (virtual assistants)
This is the time in the day where I check in on work that needs to get done, follow up, outsource necessary tasks, connect with my Freedom Team to touch base, motivate and inspire the team. To thank and appreciate them. This is really key to building trust and loyalty.
First Work Installment…
Back at the condo I start my first installment of work for the day. The night before I set my intention for the day. I also write down the 3 priority tasks and goals I need to get done for the day. I integrate a lot of hacks, apps and software to keep me on track and to make the day a productive one. (In a day there may be 3 – 5 installments of work, it just depends on what needs to get done, what the priorities are. So some days may have more or less.)
First Fun Break [aka Mini Adventure]…
After each installment of work I take a fun break or a mini-adventure. These can be anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour or more. But I definitely plan for these. This allows my brain to disengage from a task and recharge for the next work installment. So the day is a series of installments of live-work-play. Taking this approach really helps me to achieve the balance I need.
Lunch and an afternoon Siesta…
I usually get 2 work installments in before lunch. I take a nice long siesta usually between 12 to 2 pm. Lunch is usually something vegan or vegetarian from the local cafe close to the condo. They all know me by name there. I usually squeeze in a little power nap for 20 to 30 minutes.
One to Two more installments of work…
After my lunch and siesta I do usually 1 or sometimes 2 more work installments. Which are followed by fun breaks and mini-adventures.
Dinner as the sun sets…
I have a great dinner. Dinner is usually on the terrace of my condo as the sun is about to set. This is just the most beautiful time of the day. I love sun rises and sunsets. There is something so magical and powerful about waking with the sun and winding down with the sun. I truly believe that is how we should be living life in tune with nature and the natural rhythms.I usually take this time to reflect and review the day. It is my daily rewind practice. I mentally plan for the day ahead to get a head start.
Call family and friends…
After dinner I would make time to reach out to my family and friends. I would call them to touch base and just see how everyone is doing. Family and friends are very important to me. So I would want to keep in touch as much as possible while I am away for extended periods of time.
Night time mindset practice…
I wind the evening down listening to music. I then do my night time mindset practice. Which is similar to my morning mindset practice. I will do the 15 minute version like how I started the day. I will do more calming type exercises usually some stretching. then it is off to dream land. Then we do it all over again the next day. What a life.
Balancing life, work and play…
Having an online business makes my freedom lifestyle possible. What is absolutely key is balance. In order to maintain balance it boils down to having a plan in place. My business should run smoothly regardless of my location. That is the beauty of this lifestyle. I can literally be anywhere, anyplace, anytime, on any device and my business is running in the background. To ensure balance in my life and business here is what I would have in place.
My Top 10 List [aka My Balancing Act]
10. Do my morning and night time mindset practice [aka My Life Saver]
I am really big on systemizing things and having routines and rituals. It is so important to do that things that allow me to run at optimal in my life and in my business. I frame my mindset practice around Hal Elrods The Miracle Morning acronym S.A.V.E.R.S. This stands for Silence, Affirmations, Visualizations, Exercise, Reading, Scribing (Writing). I have adapted it to best suit my life and needs. It has made a world of difference in my life.
9. Make time for fun and adventure every day [aka My Freedom Fuel]
Yesterday’s challenge reminded me how important it is to take time out and just have fun. It does not have to be work work work all day. I will be creating more adventure in my life as a result.
8. Set Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Yearly Goals and Priorities [aka My Freedom Map]
Setting priorities and targets would be essential in making sure I get the things that I need to get done. I like to map things out and plan. Every day I would also take time at the end of the day to review and rewind the day. To see what worked, where I can make adjustments. I think it is important to take a regular pulse of things.
7. Follow the 100% Rule [aka #1 Focus Hack]
I would use the 100% rule for major work that needs to get done. The idea behind the 100% rule is to identify what needs 100% of your attention. This makes sure you are giving 100% of your time, energy and effort to that one thing that you absolutely have to get done. I realized from the day 1 of the challenge, “Finding your focus” that the reason I get distracted so easily is that I am not giving my attention 100% to what I am doing.
6. Integrate Gamification [aka The Fun Factor]
I am a big fan of gamification and gamifying life. I would create games as a way to make things fun and get things down. The reason I love gamification is that it builds in the fun factor. We all love games. We are all super competitive. We are wired to compete. So to me gamification just makes sense. Instead of work feeling like work, it seems more like a game. Since I started using gamification I notice that I am getting a lot more things done.
5. Use Hacks, Apps & Software [aka My Time Savers]
I would hackify lot of things and use apps. This would allow me to get things done in less time, with less effort and have more time to do the important things and the things that matter most to me. I would identify my go-to hacks for things ie. computer hacks, software hacks, smartphone hacks, life hacks, productivity hacks. The idea is to work less and live more.
4. Create Spreadsheets, Cheat sheets, Checklists & Templates [aka My Freedom Workflows]
I would have cheat sheets and checklists for everything just to make sure I am getting the things that I need to get done. I would also create spreadsheets and templates for things for efficiency.
3. Outsource [aka My Freedom Fighters]
These are the amazing people that would allow me to live the freedom lifestyle. So I would basically outsource tasks so that I can spend focused time on that things that I am good at, that I love doing. This would ensure that I am always working in my own zone of genius turning out the best work possible.
2. Build a Team of Virtual Assistants and Partners [aka My Freedom Team]
I would create a freedom team. Basically I would hire people who have strengths that I do no have. They would also be into the freedom lifestyle, having fun and creating adventure. This way everyone is working in their zone of genius and things get done in the best way possible.
1. Create Systems & Strategies for Automation [aka The Engine]
I would create and put systems and strategies in place that would allow me to automate a lot of my business. This way I do not have to be 100% hands on. So I would have a social media strategy for all channels, blogging strategy, email strategy, content strategy, affiliate marketing strategy. Basically I would create strategies and systems for all the moving parts of my business. You get the idea. I think systems and strategies take the guess work out of things and I know exactly what has to get done.
Bonus: Attend Events all Around the World [aka My Ultimate Freedom Lifestyle]
I would attend conferences, seminars, retreats, masterminds, meet-ups, exclusive VIP events and trainings all around the world. This would be my way of staying up-to-date and ahead of the curve. It would also allow my to meet other like-minded Fierce Freedom Fighters from around the world. We could share ideas, do collaborations and joint ventures, learn from one another and make awesome lifelong connections.
These are the key elements that would make my Freedom Lifestyle work. I believe I have built in balance, fun and adventure.
The Gifts of Location Independence
Location Independence would give me the opportunity to share my gifts and talents worldwide. Let me take that in for a moment. It seems surreal that I could do that. I can really focus on what is important to me and make a difference in the world. This is what is all about – spreading my impact in the world.
Thank you Natalie Sisson!
Thank you Natalie for today’s challenge. It was super amazing! Helped me to put some things into perspective in terms of the kind of lifestyle and location independence I want in my life. It made me see what is possible and that you can live a location independent life, travel, have a ton of fun and create your own adventures on the daily. That is powerful. The idea of experiencing real freedom on my terms. How awesome is that?
What matters is living a life with purpose, one where you make an impact in other peoples’ lives and leave a legacy behind you that you’re proud of! Nancy Sisson
