Note from Natalie:
Discovering your WHY. Finding a deeper sense of purpose that drives you to live a life of freedom can help you overcome all the challenges in your path. Finding your WHY will help you to overcome even the most difficult challenges in your path.
Day 2 Challenge:
I want you to write down a reason for why you want to live the freedom lifestyle. Bonus points if you can figure out how to make a positive impact in the world by living this lifestyle.
Discovering My Why:
I am a firm believer that freedom is a right, not a privilege, and that everyone deserves it. The beautiful thing about freedom is that it has a different meaning for you than for me. Natalie Sisson
What does freedom mean to me?
In a nutshell, freedom means living a life that truly matters and serving humanity through my gifts and talents.
Why is freedom important to me?
Freedom is important to me because it gives my gifts and talents a global playground. There are no limits in how far I can share my impact. Freedom allows me to touch people’s lives around the world and to live my WHY. It is about building MY DREAM. Too many times we silence and sacrifice our dreams. I want to do more of what I love and am passionate about.
Why I want to live the freedom lifestyle?
I believe that we all have a story to tell, life lessons to teach and a message to share with the world. Living a freedom lifestyle would allow me to live a life that matters. It would give me the freedom to live a life of impact and service. Right now the world needs what I have to offer. Having the kind of freedom I envision for myself would allow me to live in my purpose and stand in the power of my WHY. It would also allow me to play to my strengths and build a business around my passion. That to me equates to living a life that truly matters. I can serve the world with my gifts.
What Gets Me Up In the Morning?
Every day I get to do what I love in my job. I get to design and develop curriculum and create transformational learning experiences. I am very passionate about teaching and learning. I take what I do very seriously. The online and in-class courses I create have been used to teach thousands of adult learners in post-secondary institutions.
What I love about my 9 – 5?
Every day I get to create transformational learning experiences for students. I get to take what I know about curriculum design and development, teaching and learning theory, pedagogy, user/learner experience design principles, the science and psychology of learning, educational technology, digital strategy and piece together these amazing learning experiences. It truly is very enriching. I get to immerse myself into every aspect of the development process. I like to think of myself as a learning experience strategist or architect.
What Lights Me Up?
In 2-words – Educational Leadership! I believe that this is what I have been put on this planet to do. To inspire and transform lives through education; To create learning experiences that move people to take action in their lives; To motivate them to inspire their own communities and those around them; to have their ripple spread out around the world.
Nelson Mandela said it best,
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
I believe this wholeheartedly. So much so I have built my entire career around education. My career has truly afforded me the opportunity to do what I absolutely love! But deep down I know that there is more for me to do in the world. I believe that I am here to educate, teach and transform lives.
What Gets me into a State of Flow?
Writing and creating really get my juices going. But more specifically, the freedom I have when I am designing and developing learning experiences. I get into this zone and things just come together so effortlessly. I believe in the power of education and that education can change the world. That really drives me to always create the best learning experiences I can.
I have a deep understanding the theory of learning, the science and psychology of learning, the best practices of learning. I am able to weave it all together into these powerfully transformational learning experiences. I pride myself on being current and up-to-date with the latest learning innovations and technologies. Because I always want my work to reflect current practices. And I always want to give tons of value.
What Comes effortlessly to me?
Many people tell me I am a natural at teaching. I did not set out to be a teacher. But it is where I found myself for the last almost 17 years. My course evaluations and student feedback have always been very positive. I pinch myself every time because my passion and purpose found me. I have been so blessed to to the work I do in my career. Every day I get to inspire others through education, teaching and learning.
Curriculum design and development also comes very effortless to me. It is something I am passionate about and just comes so easy and natural to me. What may take some people weeks and months to figure out. I am able to bring ideas together very quickly. I think it is one of my super powers. Coming up with ideas and strategies is second nature to me. I can look at a mountain of information and I know how best to organize it for maximum impact, learning and retention.
What Makes me Smile?
The short answer: The 1000s of Thank Yous I have received over my nearly 17 year career as a teacher and educator.
Honestly, I would have to say all of the cards, small gifts, emails, text messages, voice messages and calls I receive thanking me for how I have impacted someone’s life and helped them achieve their dream or their career goals. The Facebook posts about how I am the best teacher someone has ever had. How I have changed someone’s life and they have me to thank for it. That is powerful. It makes me feel so good that something I did helped improve their life in a positive, life-changing way. Below are some recent posts on my Facebook page from August 21 – 23, 2016.

What do I want to do in the World?
I want to continue to share my gifts and talents for education, teaching and learning and curriculum design and development with the world. I want to share it on a bigger more grander scale. I believe the freedom plan is what will help me spread my impact in the world. I believe that this is what I am meant to be doing.
How I plan to make a positive impact in the world by living this lifestyle?
My plan is to use my gifts and talents to help others uncover and unleash their unique gifts and talents into the world. Ultimately to be a catalyst for world change and to help others spread their why with the world. This is going to be powerful!!!!
What is my Contribution?
What I show up and give every day – I provide inspiration and motivation for people to make real and sustainable change in their lives through transformational learning experiences.
What is My Impact?
The impact of what I do allows people to discover and share their unique gifts, talents and impact with their local communities and the world. As a result they are able to spread a positive ripple around others.
A Short Story…
…A client did not have the money to pay for a coaching session. But I did the coaching session anyway. It was not about the money. It was about helping someone in need and I knew I could help. 2 years later I get a call from this client to meet her. We arranged a time to meet and she handed me an envelop and I asked her “what’s this?” She reminded me of the day that she did not have the money for the coaching and that this was the money for the coaching from 2 years ago. Wow, needless to say I was beyond moved by this. She said that the coaching had helped her and she was able to get a job and help support her family.
